How to get Glossier in Australia

Billion-dollar beauty giant Glossier only shipped to seven countries in their first nine years of business (if I had a dollar for every time I was asked how I get my hands on the brand, I could probably have privately funded their expansion a lot faster).

Now, the days of stocking up on my go-to Glossier products on overseas visits and bringing back heavy products in my suitcase are gone. The brand finally ships internationally! On 11 October 2023, exactly nine years after the brand launched with four products in October 2014, Glossier quietly added a long list of countries to their shipping list.

Here’s an updated summary of ways to try the brand….

1. International shipping!

For what felt like an eternity, Glossier only shipped to the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Denmark and Sweden (the brand launched the same month as Taylor Swift released 1989, and we have lived many lives since then). After a nine-year, never-thought-it-would-happen wait, they now ship to 180+ countries including Australia!

Just select your location in the top right-hand corner of their website (a dropdown menu will appear). Standard shipping to Australia is $16 AUD for delivery in 4-6 business days. (This feels like a good result compared to other sites, e.g. Lisa Eldridge’s shipping is closer to $30 AUD for 5-7 business days).

2. Ordering overseas

I got my first taste of Glossier on a visit to the US in 2015, when I placed an order a month in advance to make sure it arrived at my hotel in time.

If you plan to stock up while travelling (their Australian pricing is about 20% higher than the US site, on top of currency conversion), contact your accommodation in advance to ask if they’re happy to hold a package for you.

(There’s a separate stellar customer service story involved, as my original package was severely delayed and didn’t make it in time despite ordering so early. Glossier refunded me immediately, then got back in touch to say they wanted to fix what happened, and sent my order all the way to Australia! I’ve heard about other random acts of international shipping kindness by the company in special circumstances too).

3. Glossier locations

Glossier’s permanent stores are located in Atlanta, Brooklyn, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, Philadelphia, Seattle, Washington D.C., and London, England, in case your next holiday or work trip takes you there.

Fancy a browse first? You can look around several early store designs in my Beauty Tour series.

The brand also hosts unique pop ups in different cities, including a great Boston store I visited in summer 2019. Their London pop up was so successful, they made it permanent!

Keep an eye out in case Glossier comes to a city near you in future. I hope Sydney or Melbourne will be on the list now that they’ve graced us with their glossy presence.

4. Sephora US, Canada and UK

In February 2023, Glossier surprised us all with their first retail partnership, launching online and in store at Sephora US, Sephora Canada and Sephora UK. You can find the brand in all freestanding Sephora stores in the US and Canada.

Although Sephora doesn’t carry the entire Glossier range, you can swatch many of their bestsellers in person in more cities than ever before.

5. Fellow Glossier fans

If you want to save on shipping or can’t see your country on their list, don’t forget to think of friends or family who live in or are travelling to a destination the brand ships to. I used to get friends to sneak a few Boy Brows back to Australia in their suitcase or mail my next pile of Priming Moisturiser to me.

6. Mail forwarding

Forwarding services can finally be farewelled after the international shipping news, but they’re still an option depending on which Glossier destination is closest to you. These services usually operate a warehouse in a particular country that will accept your package and charge additional shipping fees to forward it to you.

Always read the fine print as forwarding services don’t accept all beauty products (for example, perfume and nail polish are usually prohibited). They often charge by weight, with additional fees involved for insurance, so it can be an expensive exercise and you might like to split the cost with a friend who can’t live without their Cloud Paint.

7. Play it safe

Glossier products are only available on their own website and in the stores listed on their website. They don’t have any other stockists, so be careful of resellers or unauthorised retailers – the higher the demand for a brand, the more likely you are to encounter counterfeit products.

What’s on your Glossier wishlist? Please share in the comments below! Here’s hoping their shipping list expands in 2021 - we finally made it in 2023!
